Use two soda bottles to make a modern version of an ancient timepiece!
- 2 Clean, empty soda bottles of the same size
- 2 Bottle caps (they need to fit the bottles)
- Sand
- Awl, Hammer & Nail, or Drill (to make holes in bottle caps)
- Duct tape (or other strong tape)
- Colored water (optional)
- Take two soda bottles of the same size (16 oz, 20 oz, 1 liter, 2 liter).
- Make two holes in the center of each bottle cap. The holes should line up when they are put together.
- Put sand into one of the bottles. Fill it about halfway.
- Screw the caps onto the bottles.
- Put the neck of the empty bottle on top of the other bottle and use the duct tape to tape them together.
- Turn over your bottles and watch the sand run through!
- Try using colored water instead of sand!
